This very rare bird species was discovered in 1896 by the fameless ornithologist Dr. Hermann von Schnabel in the dark primeval forests of Tanganyika. He named it „Merkwürdiger Farbenfroher Vogel“, which means „Odd colorful Bird“. Rumor had it that he rather referred to his wife when he assigned this name.
